soccer practice... hasn't been that bad. in fact, i dare to say it has been good so far.

weird phone calls... have been invading me tonight

vero beach... terrifies me because i anti-know calculus

tripple A batteries... are lacking.

birthdays... are everywhere this week.

a tripple layer yellow cake with chocolate icing... would be so good right now

Newsweek page 51... i don't even know what to say. it's funny

the state of the union... was exactly what NPR said it would be.

gloria gwo... is bragging that "i've known that male seahorses carry the babies since i was but a wee little girl." does anybody else think that is not a normal thing to say? of course, i'm not usually known for saying the most normal things either. just an observation

traditionally, the first soccer practice consists of tripping over balls, hitting the wrong passes, taking shots wide, and failing to see the right run. it is the one day you are allowed to get it all out and rediscover the game before the weight of the season arrives.

my numbers might be off by 1, i'm too lazy to double check, but we have 14 returning varsity players. 11 seniors. 8 returning starters. 7 returning 3-year starters. these numbers are unheard of. we also picked up 3 freshmen, and you can bet they know their stuff if they're playing as freshmen.

We looked like a bunch of pimps today. nobody was lazy or out of shape or lost or rusty. it looked like the middle of the season. This is the year.

-discovering for the first time an unreleased song by your favorite band, shutting the door, turning off the lights, and cranking up the volume

-sleeping in on saturdays and then waking up to the smell of blueberry pancakes and 2 days of no obligations

-dripping with sweat, unable to breathe, in double overtime, and then taking that sideways glance off the lit field and into the stadium seats and noticeing the crowd for the first time

-writing a song at 2 am and forgetting it the next morning

-because He wants you to.

-wasting an entire day doing nothing because you want to be free just in case she is too

-making somebody else laugh

i have done nothing productive today, except that the ahsme beat me up and then lit my body on fire. so i guess that doesn't really count as being productive. oh well, time to continue being anti-productive

it's weird how people start having bad days on the firday of a 3 day weekend. my day was great, i'm just observing

Today was fun. Mrs. Langley, my retired 9th grade history teacher, was coach ballard's sub today, so that was cool. Then avy showed up at school, so i saw her for the first time in almost exactly a month.

tonight = chinese food/random hanging out with bellande, misha, fernando, alley.

work/rest on saturday and sunday. possible death on monday.

[music |Incubus - "Warning"]

a ton of homework this morning, followed by some intense tutoring featuring probability. i made up a great question about a bag of marbles, some blue, some red, some taste like sugar, some taste like cyanide...if you lick one and die, whats the probability it was blue? haha wow i had so much fun with that. ok i'm cool, shut up.

but then....

a huge football game! that was so fun. i doubt anybody who was there reads this stuff that i write, with the exception of ivy, but in case any of you do...you all have my eternal respect with a full warranty and a lifetime guarantee for letting this random white boy not only join the game, but feel like he belongs.

now i'm trying to learn how to be smart, but so far i'm failing.

[music |Disturbed - "Liberate Your Mind"]

I am just now getting around to talking about yesterday.

I got to skip 4th-6th period to go to the Rotary Club meeting. Seems like it would be pretty boring, but it was quite the opposite. First, we discovered old yearbooks featuring Tipton, Quin, Shoe, etc in 1980. We also found tracked Milam through his high school years--he looked just like everybody else as a freshman, but as a senior he had HUGE glasses...wow, great stuff indeed. Then we got to read the goals of the Rotary club: there were about 15 things, all of which basically said "to uphold positive ideals of justice and democracy," then the final one, "to erradicate polio." Bellande and i laughed forever because it seemed so out of place, but i guess we are too stupid because cha thought it made perfect sense. finally, ellen outdid everybody by performing her famous chalktalk--incredibly perfect as usual.

We got back to school in time for the talent show, which i thoroughly enjoyed, especially swati's intro...man, can that girl dance, or what?

I was scared of soccer, but in the end i actually enjoyed the 4 mile "fun run" through tanglewood.

To finish the day, i went to an indoor game featuring every sophomore soccer guy i know. it made me sad because my team didn't register in time, but it was still fun.

Time to go to church.

[music |Pat McGee Band - "Rebecca"]

here i am, early saturday morning, and i've been awake for hours. I had to go out and meet mr. milam incredibly early to get my recommendation from him so i could enclose it with the application. However, it was fun. I usually don't sleep well anymore, and driving in the early morning when the sun is still emerging and few cars occupy the roads is a rarely-enjoyed pleasure. Time to make pancakes. More to come later about the events of the past week.

School is back, and so far no problems. english is interesting, to say the least, but i guess i will live. it's very frustrating during class, and sometimes i want to rip off my ears to help me fall asleep, but hopefully a lack of homework will make the insanity worth it. soccer hasn't killed me yet. coach grammer needs to bring it just a little bit harder.

i made fun of ivy today because she walked to her car, remembered her lab book, and had to come back to tipton's room to get it. then i drove home, remembered both statistics books, and had to come all the way back to school. i guess i deserved it.

[music |311 - "Omaha Stylee"]

Two and a half years ago, I got my wisdom teeth out. The operation has been over and forgotten for a long time. Yesterday, one of the sockets got infected.

Today, I tried to run, so I drove to the high school. As I parked, rain began pouring down. So I went home, and the rain promptly stopped. I didn't want to drive back out there, so i began running in my neighborhood. When I reached the farthest point from my house and began to turn back, the rain returned.

School starts tomorrow.
I've forgotten all my subjects.
Soccer training starts tomorrow.
I'm not in shape.

...and yet somehow, i'm in a freaking awesome mood! why, you might ask? maybe the irony is funny. maybe not. i don't need a reason to be happy :)

On many unrelated things [Jan. 2nd, 2004|05:10 pm]
[mood |calmcalm]
[music |Beethoven's Sixth]

Cotton Bowl....excellent game. OSU broke both the individual passing and receiving yardage records, but fortunately Ole Miss came up with a huge win after barely hanging on in the final minutes.

All The King's Men...darn good book, read it if any of you have time, which i know none of you have. it makes me think.

The AMC...is nice enough to not have NOTA answers, so i caught a couple hundred careless mistakes. unfortunately, it still beat me.

Bananas...taste good, as always.

The French language...is smarter than I am, and learning it has become a nearly impossible task.

Hedera...needs to smile, and i anxiously await that event.

Economists...are freaking smart as crap, but the thing my dad is working on actually sounds really interesting.

Misha Kotov...somehow managed to finish his application having not begun it a few hours before it was due.

The soccer team...will find out on tuesday that i am not in shape.

A haircut...i need one, but it will be a while before it actually happens

This entry...is now finished.
